I'm finally posting photos of my new workspace... If i'm being totally honest I was waiting to post these photos so i could post some prettied up photos as well. But if I'm being even more honest that might never ever happen. Before I get started let me share with you what I loved about my last work space, which was my dining room. At least that's what it was called on the blue prints, but really we never ate in there. What I loved most is that it was in the middle of my home. Centered right between my family room and kitchen. No matter what I was doing I was in the mix of what was going on with my family. I also loved that I had a fireplace in there, which I used alot during the winter... like when it got below 60 here in california.
What wasn't working is that there just wasn't enough space to spread out all my projects. It was a constant avalanche of paper and other crap. Also I had no vertical space to hang anything like an inspiration board. It was a three sided room, one wall had an enormous picture window which I loved, one had a cut out to view through to my family room and one wall had niches cut out in it. Lastly because of a lack of space I had supplies in my hall closet as well as this room.
When my new shop started to come to fruition I quickly realized that I was going to need alot more space and hubby jumped on board and really helped my business find a new home. So here we go...
1. I moved to the garage. Even though I wanted a hard surface I needed the carpet to keep it warm.
2. I now have 4 huge tables arranged in a U shape. The first is my cutting area. Then I have a space that doubles as a shipping area and an area to make smaller kits that I like to lay out as I go.
3. My workspace, where I get down to business and make stuff.
4. Lots of room under the tables for baskets and storage for boxes and supplies for upcoming projects.
5. My die-cut team. At least the machines I still store my dies in my dining room cabinets.
6. My favorite new piece of equipment. My giant paper cutter. This baby cuts a whole ream of cardstock with one cut. I am so in love with it. And when hubby is cutting paper with it for me, oh man I can hardly stand it... love love love!
7. Room for plenty of stacks of paper.
8. All my tools just to the left of my workspace. All the things I need at an arms reach.
So here's what working... Having a ton of space... I'm still in the middle of things. Just off the kitchen, I just prop open the door. I also have a better view of my girlies when they are playing outside. Hubby also hung me my very own flat screen so I can watch TV when I want to.
I'm still dreaming of... my craft room bucket list.
- Still need vertical space
- Pretty stuff, I want to make it not only functional but pretty with all the things I love.
- All my stuff in one place, currently I have stuff in my hall closet, still in the two huge cabinets I have in my dining room, all the niches in my dining room, and i've taken over one a big floor to ceiling cabinet in my garage for inventory. I get alot of exercise walking from place to place carting things to put away or get out to use.
Well, that's it... I hope you enjoyed the tour. Hopefully I'll have some prettified photos soon. Like some slat wall up for hanging two big frames I have and some vintage ball jars I've been collecting. We'll see what life makes time for. One step at a time.
Oh and if you want a little look inside those cabinets or niches check out this photo album HERE
Hope you have a great day! Please share any thoughts you have about whats working in your space, i'd love to hear it.
