Today my baby turns 10... Good Gravy folks, where do the days go? I remember the night I found out I was pregnant with Kylah. Niguel was 6 months old (I know what was I thinking). I cried by Niguel's crib for a long time that night. If my memory serves me right Randy was not all that happy, it took him a while to warm up to the idea. But soon we adjusted and had a perfectly wonderful pregnancy. Kylah was a quiet baby. With Niguel I never did one kick count, she was like carrying around a little boxer. With Kylah I cried in bed each night, laying on my left side, praying that I would feel her move. Each day she would stretch out and change positions and stay that way for the next 24 hours. When she got to term that sometimes was very uncomfortable, knowing she would have her foot in my ribs for a long time. With Niguel I was huge as a house, with Kylah I didn't show that much (I got more wide than anything). With Niguel we didn't know her sex before she was born, I didn't want to find out with Kylah either but Randy insisted. He wanted another girl (I think, if I remember correctly). I nursed Niguel the entire time I was pregnant with Kylah, she quit on me three weeks before Kylah was born. That's pretty much all the details, it was a totally perfect calm pregnancy. And then I went into labor, this is where all the calmness of the last 9 months ended abruptly.
My contractions started about 1:45am they were about 30 seconds long and 30 seconds apart from the start. I called my doctor and he said to give it a little while and then call him back. My water broke at home about 2:15. Lets say things progressed very rapidly after that. Niguel was sleeping and Randys parents were on their way but were 30ish miles away. Randy asked if I wanted him to call an ambulance and if I would have said any words at the time I would have said "yes". For some unbelievable reason I spent my time waiting by putting on makeup??? I have no idea why... I looked like a mother raccoon in all the pictures. Randys parents were still not there so Randy's brother headed over from across town. When I finished my makeup I think I yelled at Randy and then climbed into our 4 wheel drive truck by myself. As Mike pulled up flashed his lights that he was there we pulled away. It was 2:46 am (for you locals, we live in Rancho Santa Margarita, Ky was born at Irvine Hospital). We drove the 20 miles to the hospital. I had to have the windows down the whole way. We pulled up to the emergency entrance and I jumped out of the truck, walked in, refused the wheelchair, yelled at several nurses that there was no way in H E double hockey sticks I was sitting down again. I nearly passed out in the elevator. I got to labor and delivery and was met by a very calm nurse, my doctor wasn't there, in fact no OB's were there. Randy arrived from parking the truck, he was soaking wet from riding with the windows down. The nurse said... i'm going to pull off your pants and you lay down on the bed. I did and Kylah was born just like that at 3:06 am. The emergency room doctor burst through the door, I think he was 12 and he looked scared as crap. My mom arrived and looked very confused when she walked in the room and her new grand daughter was already there. I signed all my admittance papers and declined my IV afterwards, it seemed pointless. We had a good nap. I went to a nursing clinic and laughed with the other moms about the mom who came in screaming and ranting and raving the night before (they figured she was still in labor, but I knew who they were talking about). It was every part of amazing and exciting!
Kylah Nicole Ziegler (her daddy named her)
June 15th 1999 3:06am
8 pounds 6 oz. 21 inches
She was perfect in every way. Everything we dreamed about.
She never cried. She was very content, and peaceful.
She just fit right in to our family and it seemed that this is what was meant for us. I won't say it wasn't hard.
Niguel was just a baby herself. She wasn't jealous, she was adorable.
Happy Birthday Ky! We love You!
Happy Birthday Kylah! And who are those two young folks holding you in those pics? And I don't mean Niguel.

Well you've done it now, I'm in tears!!!!!!!!!!!! What a wonderful, beautiful account of new life being brought into this world. I love the realism you provided (Randy not being that thrilled with your pregnancy at first), and details such as putting on makeup, Randy being soaking wet, and almost passing out in the elevator. What an awesome story- so glad your little one is in double digits-Happy 10TH Birthday Kylah Nicole!!!!
